1) Wal-Mart announced a plan on May 5, 2008 which offers 350 generic medications at $10 for a 3 month supply at Wal-Mart, Neighborhood Market and Sam’s Club pharmacies in the US. You can also get a 30-day supply for $4.
The company has also added several women’s medications for $9, including drugs to treat breast cancer and hormone deficiency. For example, alendronate , the generic version of osteoporosis medication Fosamax, will offered for $9 (30 days) compared to $54 that women previously paid.
Tamoxifen, used to treat breast cancer, will be offered for $9 for a 30-day supply, as well as combination estrogen/methyltestosterone tablets, prescribed for menopause and hormone deficiency.
2) The pharmaceutical industry, through its “Partnership for Prescription Assistance” is now helping 4 million Americans to receive more than 2,500 brand-name and generic medications at no-cost or low cost via more than 475 public and private patient assistance programs.
