Leave it to private retailers to figure out how to increase the value of everyone’s rebate check.
Cash strapped Americans can now “hike the value” of their incoming rebate checks by $30, $60 or $120. For example, Kroger supermarkets has announced that if you buy a gift card with your rebate check, they will automatically add $30, $60 or $120 to the value of the gift card. Kmart and Sears have also jumped in and will add 10% to the value of any gift card you buy from them with your rebate check.
More, if not most retailers are expected to follow suit as the competition for you to spend your rebate check at their store is going to be ferocious.
